The original inspiration behind the establishment of the school lay in a missionary spirit of working for the upliftment of weaker, disadvantaged, neglected and oppressed sections of society through education and human service. The educational tradition of Hill Memorial High School is recorded in historical references as having begun in 1889 through the efforts of missionary Rev. Edwin Frize. Reaching the children of weaker and disadvantaged sections of society, bringing hope and confidence into their lives, and empowering them were the principal objectives of this missionary work.

An important documented reference in the history of Hill Memorial High School is also found in 1940. In a historic judgment of the Gujarat High Court, Hill Memorial High School is referred to as “since 1940”. During that period, education from Standard VIII to X was provided in the school. The school was associated with the Methodist educational tradition of Vadodara, and its administration was also carried out under a common arrangement with its sister institution, Web Memorial Girls School.

This historical connection helps us understand the original spirit of the school: not restricting education merely to textbooks, giving priority to the overall development of students, and ensuring access to education for every section of society.
